Women and Youth Set to Benefit as Macmillan Launches Empowerment Programs

Macmillan Medical Training College has officially launched the Afya Bora Scholarship Program and the Women in Tech Empowerment Program in a move aimed at expanding access to education, healthcare training, and digital skills among Kenyan youth and women.
Speaking during the launch event, the college director Josepha Moses said the initiatives are designed to address key challenges facing the country, including unemployment, limited access to higher education, and shortages in the healthcare sector.
The director noted that many young Kenyans complete secondary school but fail to pursue further studies due to financial constraints, while women remain underrepresented in technology and innovation spaces.
“The future of Kenya depends on giving young people equal opportunities to access education, skills, and empowerment regardless of their background,” the director said.
The Afya Bora Scholarship Program will offer full and partial sponsorships to deserving students pursuing accredited medical and healthcare courses, while the Women in Tech Empowerment Program will provide fully sponsored technology training opportunities for women aged between 18 and 40 years.
The women’s program is being implemented in partnership with NIA Innovation and Technology Training College and seeks to bridge the digital divide by increasing women participation in programming, digital entrepreneurship, innovation, and emerging technologies.
According to the chief principal Sarah Oganda  , the initiatives are aligned with the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and will operate under accredited TVET education standards regulated by TVETA and CDACC.
She emphasized that the programs are intended to make education more practical, employable, and transformative, while helping young people compete in an increasingly digital and technology-driven global economy.
The college also called upon parents, development partners, county governments, corporate organizations, and the media to support efforts aimed at creating more opportunities for Kenyan youth.
Members of the media were praised for their role in highlighting empowerment initiatives and helping spread information that could restore hope to young people struggling with limited opportunities.
