Rescue Teams Intensify Search for Grade 9 Pupil Swept Away in Nairobi West.
The young student, who was enrolled at Shadrack Kimalel Junior School, was reportedly swept away by fast-moving storm water yesterday at around 10:00am following heavy rains that pounded parts of Nairobi.
The Nairobi City County Government Rescue and Disaster Management Team, working alongside the Kenya Red Cross, is conducting an ongoing search for the body of Grade 9 pupil John Wambua. The tragic incident occurred as the minor was making his way home when he was overwhelmed by the strong current.
Rescue teams have been combing through drainage channels and nearby sewer lines since yesterday, but the body has not yet been recovered. The operation continues as authorities intensify efforts, with local leaders and members of the community also present at the scene.
Family members remain distraught as they wait for any update regarding their loved one. Residents have once again raised concerns over open drainage systems and poor infrastructure, calling on authorities to urgently address the danger posed during heavy rainfall.
