Embakasi North MP James Gakuya Emerges as Early Nairobi Governor Frontrunner

Embakasi North Member of Parliament James Gakuya has emerged as an early frontrunner in the race for Nairobi Governor, according to a recent opinion poll conducted by Kenya Track.
The survey, which sampled Nairobi voters across various demographics, indicates that Gakuya currently enjoys the highest level of support among potential gubernatorial candidates, placing him ahead of several established political figures like current governor Johnson Sakaja and Embakasi East mp Babu Owino.
According to the poll findings, Gakuya leads the pack with a significant margin, signaling growing voter interest in alternative leadership for the capital.
The results suggest rising dissatisfaction with the current county administration, with many respondents citing concerns over service delivery, infrastructure management, and governance.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino ranks second in the poll, maintaining a strong support base, particularly among younger voters. Meanwhile, incumbent Governor Johnson Sakaja trails behind, reflecting a possible shift in public sentiment as Nairobi residents begin to look ahead to the 2027 General Election.

The Nairobi governor contest is expected to attract intense competition, given the county’s political and economic significance. As campaigns gradually take shape, observers anticipate more opinion polls that could either consolidate Gakuya’s momentum or reshape the race entirely.
For now, the Kenya Track poll places James Gakuya firmly in the spotlight as a key contender in the battle for control of City Hall.
