DRC Citizens in Kenya Call for Peace, Dialogue as Humanitarian Crisis Deepens
Citizens of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) living in Kenya have called for the preservation of peace and stability in their country to enable sustainable development.
Speaking in Nairobi, the citizens urged the international community to strengthen humanitarian assistance and promote inclusive and meaningful dialogue with all stake holders including general public to resolve the long-standing conflict in the DRC, which has continued to deteriorate over many years without a lasting solution.
They noted that the ongoing insecurity has severely affected key sectors, including healthcare, education, infrastructure, and human rights. They further observed that many children have been deprived of access to education due to displacement, destruction of the environment and schools, and persistent insecurity.
The citizens also expressed deep concern over the suffering of women and children, stating that approximately 1.1 million people have fled to neighboring countries, while more than 5 million people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
