Rose Wanja Cleared as Court Orders Release of Kangemi Hawkers’ Goods

Businesswoman Rose Wanja has emerged victorious in a legal battle after the Milimani Magistrates’ Court dismissed claims linking her to the alleged destruction and confiscation of goods belonging to Kangemi hawkers.

In a brief but firm ruling, the court found that the applicants—led by Wycliff Nyamu on behalf of roadside traders operating outside Kangemi Market—failed to present sufficient evidence connecting Wanja to the alleged seizure or detention of their property.

The court noted that crucial material facts were not properly placed before it, rendering the application defective and unsustainable within its jurisdiction.

“The basis for involving Rose Wanja in these proceedings was not established,” the court observed, adding that she was not the relevant authority responsible for enforcement actions complained of by the traders.

The hawkers, represented by area MCA Hon. Hamisi Suleiman Maleya, had accused Wanja of orchestrating the destruction and confiscated of their trading structures on November 23, 2025—allegations she strongly denied.

While clearing Wanja of any wrongdoing, the court ordered the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) Kabete Police Station to release goods that had been confiscated from the roadside traders, following a mutual agreement reached by all interested parties. The release is to be effected within seven days.

The court further directed that each party bear its own costs.

The ruling marks a significant legal win for Wanja, reaffirming that no evidence was presented to support the accusations against her, while also resolving the hawkers’ concerns through an agreed administrative process rather than fault-based liability.
