Kenya Hosts Textile and Apparel Value Chain Forum to Boost Local Manufacturing

Nairobi, November 7, 2025 — Industry leaders, policymakers, and development partners convened today at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) for the Textile and Apparel Value Chain Forum, a high-level event aimed at strengthening Kenya’s position in the global textile industry.

The forum, organized by the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM) in collaboration with IDH – The Sustainable Trade Initiative, brought together key stakeholders to discuss opportunities, challenges, and innovations shaping the textile and apparel value chain.

Delivering his keynote address, Mr. Jayesh Shah, Chairman of the KAM Local Textile & Apparels Sub-sector, underscored the sector’s immense potential in job creation, export growth, and industrial transformation. He emphasized the need for greater investment in local production, skill development, and sustainable manufacturing practices.

> “Kenya has a strong foundation to become a leading textile hub in Africa. With coordinated policy support, investment in technology, and collaboration between the public and private sectors, we can drive inclusive growth and enhance our competitiveness,” said Mr. Shah.



The forum also featured discussions on regional value chain integration, circular economy models, and access to green financing for apparel manufacturers. Stakeholders called for harmonized trade policies within the East African region and continued government support for initiatives that encourage local sourcing and innovation.

Representatives from the Ministry of Investments, Trade, and Industry, IDH, and other development partners reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the textile and apparel sector through strategic partnerships and capacity-building programs.
