Government Unveils KSh21 Billion Investment on Projects Across Kakamega county

The government has announced an investment of more than KSh21 billion in transformative projects in Kakamega County, aimed at promoting inclusive growth and equitable development.

The projects, spanning housing, infrastructure, energy, and social amenities, are expected to significantly boost the county’s economic prospects and improve the quality of life for residents.

Among the key initiatives is the construction of affordable housing units worth KSh14 billion, modern fresh produce markets valued at KSh2.5 billion, and student hostels in local institutions of higher learning at a cost of KSh2 billion.

The government is also establishing a gold refinery in Ikolomani at a cost of KSh1.5 billion, a move expected to ensure that the local community benefits directly from the region’s natural resources.

In addition, president William Rutto promised 230 kilometres of new roads  across the county, while KSh2.6 billion has been allocated to connect 34,000 households to electricity under the universal access to power agenda.

To enhance connectivity and trade, the Kakamega Airport is being upgraded, with the runway extended from 900 metres to 1.2 kilometres and widened to accommodate larger aircraft — a step towards positioning Kakamega as a regional economic hub.

The government has also committed to completing the Bukhungu Stadium at a cost of KSh1.4 billion, and the Kakamega County Teaching and Referral Hospital at KSh1 billion. These are expected to serve as flagship projects in sports and healthcare development respectively.

Speaking after a meeting with grassroots leaders at State Lodge Kakamega, the President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering projects that uplift communities, create jobs, and promote equitable growth across all regions.

“All these projects are designed to uplift the lives of our people, expand opportunities, and ensure equitable development across the country,” he said.
