Mt Kenya Grassroots Leaders Condemn Governor Kahiga’s Remarks
A section of Nairobi-based grassroots leaders from the Mt Kenya region have strongly condemned the recent remarks made by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, terming them reckless and unrepresentative of the region’s views.
Speaking in Nairobi, the leaders — led by Nominated MCA Cecilia Wairimu — said Governor Kahiga’s comments against former Prime Minister Raila Odinga were irresponsible and do not reflect the opinions or values of Mt Kenya residents.
“We want to make it clear that the governor spoke for himself. His utterances were disrespectful and divisive, especially at a time when the country needs unity and reconciliation,” said Wairimu.
The leaders lauded the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) for summoning the governor, saying the move will help curb hate speech and promote peaceful political discourse.
They urged elected leaders to exercise restraint and lead by example, noting that Kenya’s stability depends on mutual respect among its political leaders and communities.
