Korogocho MCA Matach Warns Nyeri Governor Over Disparaging Remarks on Late Raila Odinga
Korogocho Member of County Assembly (MCA) Absalom Odhiambo Onyango, popularly known as Matach, has issued a stern warning to Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga over what he termed as disrespectful and insensitive remarks about the late former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga.
Speaking in Nairobi, Matach expressed deep disappointment at Governor Kahiga’s comments, describing them as a direct insult to the memory of a leader who dedicated his life to the struggle for democracy and justice in Kenya.
“It is unfortunate and shameful for a senior leader like Governor Kahiga to make such reckless remarks at a time when the entire nation is mourning the loss of an icon,” said Matach. “Raila Odinga deserves respect from all Kenyans, regardless of political differences.”
The outspoken MCA urged leaders across the political divide to emulate Raila’s legacy of unity, tolerance, and service to the people, instead of using such moments to sow division.
He further commended the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) for summoning the Nyeri Governor over his comments, saying that such utterances have the potential to stir unnecessary tension among Kenyans.
“We must guard our tongues. Raila Odinga stood for peace and democracy. Those trying to taint his image even in death should be called out and held accountable,” Matach added.
Matach also appealed to young leaders to rise above divisive politics and focus on building a country that respects diversity and upholds the values of unity and mutual respect.
Governor Mutahi Kahiga has come under fire in recent days from various quarters following his controversial remarks about the late Raila Odinga — sentiments that have sparked condemnation from leaders across political affiliations and social groups.
The NCIC has since confirmed that it will investigate the matter, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that public discourse remains respectful and in line with Kenya’s cohesion agenda.
