Government Spokesman says new legislation strengthens accountability and Digital safety

Government Spokesman Hon. (Dr.) Isaac Mwaura has defended several recently enacted laws, saying they are designed to enhance transparency, citizen protection, and national development — not to silence dissent as alleged in some quarters.

Addressing the media at the Harambee Annex Media Centre, Dr. Mwaura highlighted key legal reforms and government programmes, emphasizing that the legislative changes strengthen institutions and uphold public trust.

Dr. Mwaura clarified that the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes (Amendment) Act does not curtail freedom of expression. Instead, it fortifies Kenya’s ability to tackle rising online threats, including child pornography, cyber-harassment, online extremism, terrorism propaganda, and financial fraud.
Mwaura urged the lobby group rushing to courts to read and understand the draft but the government will observe rule of law and ensure protection of freedom and rights of all citizen.
