Former Chief Justice Maraga accuses president William Rutto for ignoring public participation
Former Chief Justice David Maraga has accused President William Ruto of assenting to several critical bills without sufficient public participation.
Speaking to the media in Nairobi, Maraga said the move undermines the constitutional principle that requires citizens to be fully involved in the legislative process. He emphasized that meaningful public input is essential to ensure laws reflect the will and interests of the people.
Maraga urged both Parliament and the Executive to adhere strictly to the Constitution and avoid shortcuts that erode democratic governance. He warned that continued disregard for public participation could lead to growing mistrust in government institutions and future legal challenges against the enacted laws. He vowed to go to court to challenge the illegality of the amendment that were signed into law the day former Prime minister Raila odinga and champion for justice and democracy rested.
