Africa Unites to Tackle Climate and Health Crises Through Science and Policy

Africa stands at the frontline of the global climate crisis, confronting an alarming convergence of environmental and health challenges — from extreme heatwaves and floods to rising pollution levels, disease outbreaks, and persistent food insecurity. These overlapping threats continue to strain livelihoods and public health systems across the continent, demanding coordinated, science-driven solutions.

In response, the upcoming Pan-African Conference on Environment, Climate Change & Health aims to bridge the gap between science and policy, creating a transformative platform for evidence-based decision-making. The goal is to turn cutting-edge research into practical, actionable strategies that strengthen climate-health resilience across Africa.

The high-level event will bring together more than 600 delegates, including policymakers, scientists, public health professionals, civil society leaders, private sector innovators, development partners, and youth representatives from across Africa and beyond.

Among the key speakers will be senior government officials, renowned climate and health researchers, and representatives from leading regional and international organizations committed to advancing Africa’s climate-health agenda.

Through panel discussions, policy dialogues, and collaborative sessions, the conference will seek to deliver practical policy recommendations, enhance transdisciplinary partnerships, and launch innovative climate-health research hubs designed to sustain long-term impact.

Crucially, the event will also catalyze the establishment of an Environment, Climate Change, and Health Working Group, alongside the creation of virtual policy labs to ensure continuous collaboration and policy innovation beyond the conference itself.

As the world looks to Africa for leadership on sustainable development, this landmark gathering represents a turning point in aligning science, policy, and community action — paving the way for a healthier, more resilient, and climate-smart future for all.
